The COVID-19 pandemic has affected people of all ages, including children. Children are less likely to become severely ill with COVID-19 than adults, but they can still contract the virus and spread it to others. In addition, some children have developed serious complications from COVID-19, such as Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C). According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as of March 2023, children account for around 8% of reported COVID-19 cases globally. The majority of children who contract COVID-19 have mild symptoms or no symptoms at all, and the mortality rate in children is lower than in adults. However, there have been instances where children have become seriously ill and died from the virus.

Infant nutritional requirements are described as part of pediatric nutrition. The most crucial part of nutrition for infants is breastfeeding. Children who are fed premature babies receive long-chain fatty acids and prebiotics. Children who are very malnourished pass away from inadequate treatment of an initial phase of high volume and protein.

Babies at birth are not simply miniature grownups. An unexpected challenge may result from a medical condition. Babies are occasionally delivered before their bodies are prepared to leave the womb. Certain vital organs, including the heart, lungs, stomach, and skin, could not be properly matured to work entirely on their own. Neonatologists have the specialized training needed to diagnose and handle medical conditions within infants. Additionally, neonatologists utilize medical products created especially for the youngest patients.

Your child could become unwell from bacterial, viral, parasitic, or fungal infections, which are all infectious disorders to be concerned about. Although most pediatric infectious diseases are not serious and children recover quickly, children may occasionally need to see a specialist for persistent, severe, or recurrent infections.

The immune response plays a crucial part in both preventing infections and fighting them when they do occur. When the immune system reacts improperly to environmental triggers that are generally harmless to others, allergies such as high fever and food infections might occur.

When the immune system is unable to effectively combat infections, immunodeficiency diseases develop, which can lead to frequent or severe illnesses.

Immune deficits and allergic diseases more frequently affect children. Our professionals concentrate on the thorough diagnosis and treatment of these disorders, pediatric therapy choices, and how these immunological problems can impact a child's growth and diet.

The pediatric nephrology market is primarily driven by the increasing incidence of kidney diseases among children and adolescents. According to the National Kidney Foundation, over 26 million people in the United States have kidney disease, with about 1 in 10 adults having some level of chronic kidney disease. Additionally, kidney disease is the 9th leading cause of death in the United States.

In children, congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are the most common cause of kidney disease, which affects about 1 in 500 newborns. Other common causes of pediatric kidney disease include glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, and acute kidney injury.
